On day seven of the US-Israeli attack on Iran, Tehran was heavily bombed.
The bombardment on Iran's capital is more intense than it has ever been, according to an Al Jazeera correspondent in Tehran.
On the seventh day of the US-Israeli war in Iran, intense airstrikes have targeted Tehran and other Iranian cities, with US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth warning that the onslaught was "about to rise considerably."
The US claimed that its B-2 bombers had dropped dozens of "penetrator" bombs on deeply buried ballistic missile launchers inside Iran, while Israel's military announced Friday morning that it had started a fresh "broad-scale wave of strikes" against Tehran.
According to press sources and an Al Jazeera team on the ground, massive explosions occurred overnight at a number of locations in Tehran, the capital of Iran, including residential neighborhoods and the region around Tehran University.
A journalist from Iran's main network was reporting live close to the scene when an Iranian military academy was also hit.
Tohid Asadi of Al Jazeera reported from Tehran that the capital was under more intensive shelling than before, with numerous attacks in the southeast and east of the city.
"We have been watching a continuous wave of tremendous hits from the very early hours of today and throughout the morning," he added, adding that the Al Jazeera office could feel the shockwaves of the explosion.
"We saw stronger shelling tonight, at least in the capital, compared to previous days," he claimed, describing massive explosions, fighter jets in the air, and a massive column of dense smoke rising from an air strike.
According to him, the targets apparently included both military and civilian locations, such as homes, parking spaces, and filling stations.
Bombing of buried missile launchers: US
There have also been reports of explosions in the Iranian cities of Shiraz and Isfahan, as well as in the vicinity of Kermanshah, which is home to several missile facilities.
According to the Israeli military, the majority of Iran's missile launchers and air defenses have already been destroyed by assaults.
US B-2 stealth bombers fired dozens of 2,000-pound "penetrator" bombs on deeply buried ballistic missile sites inside Iran early on Friday, according to Admiral Brad Cooper, director of US Central Command (CENTCOM).
Cooper added, "We have also hit Iran's Space Command equivalent, which diminishes their ability to harm Americans."
Hegseth described an impending escalation in the bombing while speaking with Cooper.
Hegseth stated, "There are more fighter squadrons, more capabilities, and more defensive capabilities." "And there are more frequent bomber pulses."
The US is "probably to blame" for the school attack: Report
According to Iranian official media, strikes on Iran since Saturday have killed at least 1,230 people. At least 181 children were among the fatalities, according to a Friday UNICEF report.
According to the IRGC, at least 175 children were among the minor victims when a girls' school in Minab, in southern Iran, was attacked on the first day of US and Israeli bombings on Iran.
Hegseth admitted on Wednesday that the US military was looking into the incident amid criticism.
According to two US officials cited by the Reuters news agency, US military investigations have not yet come to a definitive decision but believe it is likely that US forces were responsible for the apparent strike.
Attacking a school on purpose would be a war crime, and if the US was involved, it would be one of the worst incidents of civilian casualties in decades of US warfare in the Middle East.
