Iran attacks Israel in the second week of the US-Israeli conflict.
Eight days of fighting and Iranian retribution are marked by explosions that rock Tehran as US-Israel attacks get more intense.
As the conflict that has sparked the Middle East enters its ninth day, massive explosions have struck a number of areas throughout Iran, including Tehran, the country's capital.
Early on Saturday, clouds of dark smoke rose in the Iranian capital as a result of the US-Israeli attacks, and Tehran fired missiles at Israel in retaliation.
In the week-long fight, which has already claimed at least 1,230 lives and is expected to result in more deaths every day, the US has issued a warning about an impending bombing campaign that authorities said will be the most intensive yet.
The conflict has engulfed much of the area, with Tehran attacking US sites around the Gulf in addition to retaliating against Israel.
Early on Saturday, the Israeli military declared that it had launched a "broad-scale wave of strikes" against targets in Tehran.
According to Tohid Asadi of Al Jazeera, who reported from Tehran, "Iranians are now waking to day eight since the commencement of the US-Israeli airstrikes targeting multiple installations and areas across the Iranian capital and elsewhere in the country."
He claimed that since midnight, attacks had been ongoing.
Mehrabad, one of the two major airports in the Iranian capital, was reportedly targeted. According to Asadi, the surrounding neighborhood was also impacted.
He stated that attacks have been occurring in different cities throughout the nation, focusing on civilian areas, schools, and hospitals in addition to military or political hubs.
Iran's ambassador to the UN, Amir-Saeid Iravani, informed the UN Security Council on Friday that Israel and the US are targeting residential areas in his nation, saying, "These activities constitute blatant war crimes and crimes against humanity."
The ongoing conflict coincides with the approval of a new $151 million arms sale to Israel by US President Donald Trump's administration, following Trump's declaration that he would not engage in negotiations with Iran absent its "unconditional submission."
Iran would "take all necessary steps" to defend itself, according to the country's UN envoy.
Iran's plan to "put Israelis in shelters"
Iran has been retaliating against Israel in the meantime.
Early on Saturday, the Israeli military reported that it had detected another round of Iranian missile firing aimed at Israel. Following the Iranian launches, Tel Aviv heard a number of explosions.
Additionally, missiles were seen traveling toward southern Israel and other regions of the nation.
Nida Ibrahim of Al Jazeera reported from Ramallah in the occupied West Bank that "the Israelis have detected at least five ballistic missile launches going into Israel from Iran since midnight."
"They have led millions of Israelis into shelters throughout the night, which is something that Israeli analysts say the Iranians want to do to put additional pressure on the Israeli government by keeping these missiles launching at different times and by putting Israelis in shelters."
