US citizens’ support for Israel at historic low over Gaza genocide: Poll
Backing for Israel among US voters hits historic nadir, with 41% now sympathising more with Palestinians, Gallup poll reveals.
A new Gallup poll reveals a significant decline in US public
support for Israel, marking a notable shift from decades of strong,
bipartisan backing. Currently, 41% of Americans sympathize more with
Palestinians, while 36% favor Israel. This contrasts with pre-October
2023 figures, when 54% supported Israel and 31% sympathized with
Palestinians, before the Hamas attack and the subsequent Israeli
military actions in Gaza.
Here is a concise summary of the report’s main findings:
- Democratic support has remained steady, with 65% sympathizing more with Palestinians and 17% with Israelis as of 2025, continuing a trend since 2023.
- Independents have shifted significantly this year, now siding with Palestinians (41%) over Israelis (30%), reversing prior years' pro-Israel leanings.
- Among Republicans, 70% sympathize more with Israelis and 13% with Palestinians; however, support for Israel has declined by 10 points since 2024 to its lowest since 2004, reflecting internal party divisions.
- A notable age gap appears: for the first time since 2001, a majority of 18–34-year-olds sympathize more with Palestinians (with Israeli sympathy at a record low of 23%), while among those over 55, Israeli sympathy (49%) has dropped below 50% for the first time since 2005.
- Support for establishing an independent Palestinian state remains stable, with about 60% of US adults in favor, consistent since 2020.
